Unfortunately, a monitoring script we use to keep an eye on the mail server also failed. As a result, messages sent to that server until Monday morning at 9 am were rejected with a 'temporary failure' error.
When this type of error occurs, the sending mail server should queue the message and try sending it again, for some number of days.
